Surah Al-Baqarah (2:28) Brief Tafsir By Mufti Maaz Haroon

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:28) — Brief Tafsir By Mufti Maaz Haroon

Tafsir Breakdown

  1. “You were lifeless…”

Before birth, humans were nothing—just scattered particles. Allah gathered those particles and gave them life. This refers to our pre-creation state, when we had no soul, body, or identity A.

  1. “He gave you life…”

Allah created us, shaped us, and breathed life into us. This is the first life—our worldly existence. It’s a gift and a test.

  1. “He will cause you to die…”

Death is not the end. It’s a transition—a pause before the next phase. Everyone must pass through it.

  1. “He will bring you back to life…”

This is the resurrection on the Day of Judgment. Allah will reassemble every soul and body, no matter how scattered, and give them life again A B.

  1. “To Him you will return…”

This is the final accountability. Every soul will stand before Allah to answer for their deeds. Paradise or Hell will follow, based on that judgment.

Spiritual Lessons

  • Life is a gift—not random, but purposeful.
  • Death is not destruction—it’s a doorway to eternal life.
  • Resurrection is real—Allah will bring us back, just as He created us.
  • Accountability is certain—we will return to Allah, so our choices matter.

Summary:
You were nothing. Allah gave you life. You’ll die. You’ll come back. And you’ll meet Him again.
So live like you’re preparing for that meeting.
